As well as the larger cities, you can also get to a lot of New Zealand's smaller beauty spots, including Invercargill, Paraparaumu and Whangarei.

Air Nelson check in

Air Nelson bookings are managed through Air New Zealand's web properties. Online check-in opens 24 hours before a flight, and you can do this through the Air New Zealand website or app.

Airport check-in is also available at all departure points in New Zealand. For domestic flights it's recommended to give yourself an hour to check in, drop your bags and make your way through security.

Air Nelson baggage allowances & fees

Air Nelson follows the same baggage allowance style as Air New Zealand. Passengers have the option to pay for just a seat (no checked-in luggage) or choose from a range of other options. Most of these allow for 1 checked bag, although Flexi Plus comes with 2.

The maximum weight for a checked-in bag is 23kg and the total of its dimensions (height, width and depth) must be no more than 158cm.

All passengers are allowed 1 carry-on item (maximum dimensions of 118cm, maximum weight 7kg) plus 1 small item such as a laptop bag.

Air Nelson seat selection

The more expensive fares on Air Nelson flights come with a free seat choice. If you opt for the Seat or Seat + Bag options, the airline charges $5 for a standard seat or $10 for a seat with extra leg room.

Parents travelling with a child up to 8 months old may also request to sit in a row with a bassinet seat. There is no charge for this.
