Flybe flights & airline information

Flybe is a low-cost airline based in the United Kingdom, with hubs in Birmingham and Manchester. It was founded in 1979 as Jersey European Airways, but took up the name Flybe in 2002.

The majority of Flybe's operations are in the UK, but the airline also flies to France, Germany, Italy and 5 other European countries.

Why Fly Flybe?

Despite stiff competition from the likes of British Airways and Ryanair, Flybe is the airline with the most domestic routes in the UK. As well as this wide selection of British airports, Flybe sells flights to 8 other countries across Europe.

Ways to Check In

As well as airport check-in, Flybe has self-service kiosks at a number of their departure airports.

Web check-in is available 36 hours before a flight. If you choose this option, remember to print your own boarding pass and bring it to the airport. If you're travelling with just hand luggage, you can proceed straight to the security checks.

To save time, you can choose to check in while making your booking. By selecting this option, you will be sent your boarding pass 36 to 15 hours before your flight, either as an e-mail or to your mobile phone. This works the same as checking in online, but with 1 step in the process removed.

Baggage Allowances and Fees

How much checked luggage you're permitted depends on what fare type you plump for. Flybe sells 3 tiers of tickets: 0 items, 1 item (up to 23kg) and 2 items (up to 46kg). If you're on one of the cheaper fares, you can pay to get hold luggage added to your ticket.

All passengers, regardless of fare type, are entitled to 1 cabin bag and 1 personal item on board. The larger of these 2 items must not measure more than 55cm x 35cm x 20cm.

As with baggage allowance, your seat selection options depend on the fare you pick.

If you go for the cheapest option, you'll be assigned a seat at time of check-in. If you want to pick one earlier, or upgrade for extra legroom, a fee applies.

Those on the secondary or top tiers can choose a seat for free. Those on the top level can also pick a seat with extra legroom without a fee, while those in the 2nd bracket have to pay.
