Korean Air is South Korea's largest airline and the national flag carrier. Its main international hub is at Seoul Incheon Airport, with a second at Seoul Gimpo Airport.

The airline was founded as Korean National Airlines in 1946 and became a private company in 1969. Korean Air is a founding member of the SkyTeam alliance and has a fully-owned subsidiary airline, Jin Air.

Why Fly with Korean Air

Korean Air check in

You can check in for Korean Air flights online, at the airport or at self-check-in kiosks at selected airports.

Online check-in is available from 48 hours to 1 hour before an international flight, or 40 minutes before domestic flights. For flights to the UK, US and Canada, web check-in opens 24 hours before take-off.

Check-in at the airport closes 40 minutes before most international flights, but this may be extended to 60 minutes for long-haul flights. Domestic check-in closes 20 minutes before departure.

Korean Air baggage allowances & fees

Your baggage allowance for Korean Air is based on your flight class, with all passengers being granted at least 1 complimentary checked bag and 1 carry-on bag.

Economy class fliers can take aboard 1 carry-on item and 1 personal item, such as a laptop bag or handbag, weighing up to 12kg combined. Prestige and first class passengers are allowed 2 carry-on items up to 18kg.

Most economy flights include 1 checked item, apart from some flights to the Americas which offer 2 items. Prestige class flights include 2 checked bags for all destinations, while first class passengers can check 3 items. These bags must weigh a maximum of 23kg each and not exceed 158cm in size.

Fees are charged for baggage exceeding these allowances, starting from US$70.

Korean Air seating

You can choose your preferred seat up to 361 days before your Korean Air flight. There is no fee for standard seats.

The exception is emergency exit row seats, which are assigned by airline staff after confirming that passengers are willing and able to assist in an emergency.
