Why Fly with Malaysia Airlines

Ways To Check In

Counter check-in is available across Malaysia Airlines' network. These tend to close 60 minutes before departure.

Web check-in is also possible. This is available 48 hours before a flight up until 90 minutes before departure. To do this, you'll need your booking reference or e-ticket number. Once checked in, you can print your boarding pass or use the mobile options.

Self-service kiosks are available at 6 airports in Malaysia, including Kuala Lumpur International Airport where this check-in style is mandatory.

Baggage Allowance & Fees

Economy passengers on Malaysia Airlines flights are allowed up to 30kg of checked luggage, spread over multiple bags. This goes up to 50kg if you book a first class seat.

The exception to this is if you're travelling to or from North or South America. On these flights, economy passengers are allowed 2 items in the hold, with a maximum weight of 23kg for each.

Economy passengers are allowed 1 carry-on bag and 1 small item on board with them (business and first class passengers get 1 extra bag in their allowance). This must be no more than 7kg and at most 55cm x 35cm x 25cm.

Seating

Price for seat selection varies based on the distance you're flying and what type of seat you want.

Standard seats are the cheapest, starting at 11 ringgit (roughly NZ$4) and going up to 50 ringgit (NZ$17). Emergency exit seats cost 22 to 150 ringgit, while extra legroom seats are 50 to 300 ringgit. Upper deck seats on the A380 are available for an extra 100 ringgit.

Some seats, such as those in exit rows, are only available to adults who are able and willing to help in the event of an emergency.

Booking Fees

Passengers can conveniently pay for their booked flights using their mobile phone using Visa, MasterCard and American Express credit cards, or your PayPal account. Purchases made with American Express are accepted for all currencies except MYR (Malaysia Ringgit). PayPal payments on MHmobile are currently valid for flights departing from Malaysia only.
