Abu Dhabi International Airport

The Abu Dhabi International Airport was inaugurated in 1982, a decade after the unification of the seven Emirates to form the United Arab Emirates. For the frequent traveller, you might note that the general exterior of the terminal somewhat resembles that of the new terminal of the Mumbai Airport because it was designed by the same architect, Skidmore, Owings & Merrill.

Originally designed to handle 5 million passengers per year, todays Abu Dhabi International Airport has raised its annual capacity to 12.5 million passengers. Looking forward, it has made plans to expand to reach 40 million passengers by 2017, with the addition of the iconic new Midfield Terminal Complex (MTC).

Abu Dhabi International has consistently been voted the best airport in the Middle East at the World Airport Awards and continues to retain its premium status through continual upgrades and improvements to the terminals and services.
