Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport is known to locals as both Guangzhou Airport and Baiyun Airport. It is currently the third busiest airport in China – behind Beijing and Shanghai Pudong – and acts as a hub for several carriers, including China Southern Airlines. The airport is located 28km from downtown Guangzhou.
Guangzhou Airport has a single terminal which houses all of its check-in desks. Flights then leave from this terminal or from one of two concourses: Area A and Area B. As a general rule, international flights leave from the main building while domestic flights take off from Area A or B.
Most of the restaurants and shops are found in the main terminal, but both of the concourses also have a few options to keep waiting passengers happy. Head upstairs for the widest selection of international and Chinese restaurants and cafes. Free drinking water and boiling water (for those who like to travel with tea bags) can be found downstairs near many of the departure gates.
A second terminal is currently under construction to help cope with increasing passenger demands on the airport.
