Playing a major role in Thailand’s tourism industry, Phuket International Airport is your gateway to the island paradise of Phuket. Located 32km from downtown Phuket, it is the third busiest airport in the country in terms of passenger volume; setting a record 11.3 million arrivals and departures in 2013, a 18.8% increase from 2012’s numbers. Phuket International Airport is 92 feet above sea level, at longitude 100° 23' 55" and latitude 06° 55' 46". It has an accommodation capacity of 30 flights per hour, with an asphalt concrete runway of 3,050 metres long and 45 metres wide. The airport has seven parking stands, two with contact gates and five remote parking bays.
Several airlines fly in and out of Phuket International Airport handling more than 2,900,000 passengers, 27,000 flights, and 12,000 tonnes of cargo.
Phuket International Airport has two terminals: Terminal 1 for international flights and Terminal 2 for domestic flights. Last February 2014, the airport opened Terminal X to accommodate charter flights – 24 flight operations in an hour.

Despite being a very busy airport, Phuket International Airport offers several services and facilities to ensure that your experience is a pleasurable one. Passengers can simply approach the airport officers at the Airport Information Counter for any enquiries or assistance. AOT Free Wi-Fi by TrueMove H lets you stay connected while in transit. Need to know where to go and what to do? Head over to any of the two tourist information counters located at the first floor of the passenger hall – you can book your hotel and get to know more about upcoming festivals. If you don’t want to be hassled by your luggage, luggage storage services are also available at the first floor of the domestic arrival hall. Need to mail a pretty postcard or make a call? The airport’s Post and Telegraph Office is located at the second floor of the departure hall for your convenience. Short on cash? There are four currency exchange counters in the arrival hall and one counter in the departure hall. The airport also offers first aid and emergency medical services in the departure hall, which is open between 6:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m.
A wide variety of shops, dining areas, as well as relaxation and entertainment services can be found in the airport. Sauna & Spa lets you relax with foot massage and spa services. There are convenience stores, souvenir shops, bookshops, boutiques, flower shops, Duty Free, a pharmacy, flower shops, and a toy shop located on the second floor. There are also several dining options whenever you want to grab a bite, have some dessert, or maybe have a cup coffee. The airport is home to numerous restaurants, fast food areas, coffee shops, bakeries, and ice cream shops to fill your tummy.
There are also several modes of transportation getting to and from the airport such as public taxis, limo services, minibus, and airport bus. Passengers can contact the Transportation Service Counter located at the arrival hall for information on bus timetables, rates, and the like. The airport’s Limousine Counter is located in the arrival hall as well, along with two car rental counters at the north and south end.
