Los Angeles International Airport

The Los Angeles International Airport, most commonly known as LAX, is the main airport serving the greater Los Angeles area. It is known to be the sixth busiest airport in the world in terms of passenger volume. From 2011, its passenger volume grew to 63.7 million passengers. LAX is the main hub for various airlines including American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, United Airlines, Alaska Airlines, Horizon Air, and Great Lakes Airlines. Currently, the airport is undergoing a renovation and improvement program that is valued at $4.11 billion. This is to expand its Tom Bradley International Terminal (TBIT) in order to make room for larger aircraft and to handle the increasing number of flights to and from the Southern California region. As of 2013, LAX is considered to be the biggest airport in California.


There are a total of nine passenger terminals in the airport. These terminals are served by a shuttle bus. Terminal 1 has a total of 15 gates and it is the largest of all terminals. Terminal 2 has 11 gates and hosts majority of foreign airlines. Terminal 3 has 12 gates where US Airways recently moved to. Terminal 4 has 14 gates and is the home of American Airlines. Terminal 5 has 15 gates where Western Airlines has occupied since it opened in 1962. Terminal 6 has 14 gates where both United Airlines and Alaska Airlines operate lounges. Terminal 7 has 11 gates where four of those gates have two jetways which can accommodate a large aircraft. Terminal 8 has nine gates and is used for mainline United flights. The Tom Bradley International Terminal, or TBIT, has 12 gates. It was named after Tom Bradley who was the first African-American and longest-serving mayor of Los Angeles.

Services and Facilities

LAX offers complimentary Wi-Fi services so that travellers can stay connected even while travelling. Travellers can access the airport's Wi-Fi in most of the public areas of the airport. The airport also includes plenty dining options from fast food chains choices to restaurants. The airport also has various Duty-Free shops located at terminals 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and TBIT. There are also gift shops and newsstands located at the airport. The airport also offers travellers with disabilities with necessary services and facilities. Medical services and first aid are also readily available for travellers. A first aid station is located on the Upper/Departure Level of TBIT which is open daily from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. In case of any serious emergencies, paramedic ambulance assistance is also available through contacting any airline employee. The airport also has a corresponding Lost and Found office opened at 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 P.M. (Mondays to Fridays). LAX also has a special art program that travellers may enjoy while waiting for their flights. The airport hosts art exhibitions, public art, and performance series that aim to provide passengers at the airport, educational, entertaining, and enriching cultural experiences.

Driving hide 

Los Angeles International Airport is accessible by car. The airport is located 24km southwest of Los Angeles. If you're coming from Southbound 405, take an exit to Howard Hughes PKWY to bypass traffic and go right towards Sepulveda BLVD. Take a left at Sepulveda BLVD and head south for approximately 10 minutes through downtown Westchester. You will see the entrance to LAX on the right hand side once you pass In-n-Out Burger. If you're coming from Northbound 405, take the 105 West FWY and exit Sepulveda North. Stay in the right lane and follow directions to departures and arrivals. If you're coming from the 105 West FWY, exit Sepulveda North and stay in the right lane. Directions will lead you into departures and arrivals.
