Rajshahi Airport

Shah Makhdum Airport is a domestic airport in Rajshahi, the principal city of the Rajshahi Division in Bangladesh. Carriers of the Shah Makhdum Airport offer domestic flights to Dhaka and Saidpur via the airlines Biman Bangladesh Airlines and United Airways. It is operated by the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh.

It is situated 64 feet above mean sea level and has a runway that spans 1829 by 30 metres. Because of the Shah Makhdum Airport’s low elevation, planes can take off and land at an air speed that is lower than when they are on airports situated at higher elevation. This is because air density is higher when closer to the sea level.

Shah Makhdum Airport is the main airport that serves Rajshahi, one of the metropolitan cities in Bangladesh. It is a major urban and industrial centre of North Bengal and is located near the Bangladesh-India border. The city is also surrounded by the elevated terrain of the Barind Tract.

It takes about five hours by bus to reach the city from the capital Dhaka, or about six hours by car. Train services travelling between Dhaka and Rajshahi are also available. Taxis, rickshaws, and auto-rickshaw CNGs are the common forms of transport within the city.

The city offers a wide range of must-see destinations, from museums and parks to mosques and palaces. Visit the Banks of the Padma, considered as one of the largest rivers in South Asia. By the bank of the river lies the Central Park and Zoo. It features a wide green space, trees, as well as a variety of animal species. For more lush green views, don’t miss the Rajshahi University. Located just a few kilometres from the city centre, it is a large campus that is surrounded by mango groves.

At the heart of the city lies the Varendra Research Museum. Considered as one of the oldest museums in the subcontinent, the museum is home to a wide selection of books, journals, and manuscripts. It also has a large collection of statues of Lord Surya and other works that depict the history and civilization of the city.

Another must-see attraction is the Shrine of Hazrat Shah Makhdum. The shrine was built to mark the resting place of the first preacher of Islam in the region named Hazrat Shah Makhdum in 1635 AD. Visitors also go to the ancient Puthia Palace and the Bagha Mosque. This historical structure is situated in Bagha of Rajshahi.

Go to Dargahpara to see the shrine of Hazrat Shah Mokhdum and the shrine of Shah Turkan. Rajshahi College and Rajshahi Collegiate School, two famous educational institutes, are likewise located in this area.

Tourists who are looking for shopping areas can go to Shaheb Bazaar at the heart of the city. Also known as the Zero Point of the city, it has numerous shopping malls and markets, as well as banks and hotels. Another busy shopping destination is Ranibazar located near Shaheb Bazaar. Other shopping areas include Madrasha Market, Nanking Bazaar, and Uposhahor New Market.
