San Francisco Airport

Not only the birth place of Irish coffee and Chinese fortune cookie, San Francisco is also home to one of the busiest airports in the world, and second busiest airport in California. San Francisco Airport is about 21 kilometres to downtown San Fran, and easily accessible by the tourist-friendly train and bus transportation system.

San Fran Airport has four terminals – Terminal 1, 2, 3 and International. Serving massive number of domestic passengers, Terminal 1, 2 and 3 are dedicated to domestic flights. Newest out of all four, the International Terminal replaced the Terminal 2 international departure, and sees to all international flights and some domestic.

Getting around the massive airport would’ve been a headache if not for the AirTrain system. With services as frequent as every four minutes and operating 24/7, the wheelchair-friendly AirTrain will zip you between terminals, car parks and the Car Rental Centre.

Services and Facilities

Between the Aviation Museum and Library, the interactive Flight Deck and the SFO Museum, you’d definitely get your history fix. Travelling with restless kids? Cleverly designed children play areas will entertain your little ones while you put those tired feet up. The airport’s family-friendly facilities include family lanes at security checkpoints, nurseries, and children-friendly restaurants and shops.

Why not leave kids with your spouse and sneak away to be on your own at the yoga rooms located at Terminal 2 and 3; Berman Reflection Room at International Terminal; Christian Science Reading Room at Terminal 1? Even better, treat yourself to a pampering massage at one of the spa outlets located at every terminal.

Explore the countless number of duty-free and luxury retail stores lining the halls of the airport. Get on a culinary journey, one chophouse at a time. Or hang back at one of the watering holes, while checking your emails using the airport’s ubiquitous free Wi-Fi connection.

The airport also has showers, a medical clinic and a travel agency for that last minute change of plans. Instead of using airport showers, a passenger in transit opt to freshen up in the privacy of his hotel room. There are at least eight hotels within 3 kilometres of the San Fran airport – The Westin San Francisco Airport, Aloft San Francisco Airport, and San Francisco Marriot Waterfront, just to name a few.
