Calgary International Airport, originally named McCall Field, is an international and publicly-owned airport running services for Calgary, Alberta, and its surrounding areas. It is located 11 miles or 17 kilometres from downtown Calgary, and is operated by the Calgary Airports Authority. It is wholly owned by Transport Canada. Calgary International Airport serves as a hub for Air Canada, Air Canada Express, Air Canada Rouge, Westjet, WestJet Encore, and charter Flair Airlines. It is Canada's third busiest airport by passenger traffic and aircraft movements, handling some 15 million passengers in 2013. In 2008, it was named as one of Alberta's top employers by Mediacorp Canada Inc. The airport is also one of the eight Canadian airports with US Border Preclearance facilities, allowing for easier and smoother transactions when flying to the United States.
Currently, Calgary International Airport offers non-stop flights to major cities in Canada, the United States, Mexico and the Caribbean, Europe, and a few on East Asia. With quite huge roster of passenger routes and flights, Calgary also handles several scheduled cargo airlines, along with private charters.
Although Calgary International Airport has only one main terminal, the said building is divided into three concourses, with one of which subdivided into two wings. One of the said wings is used to accommodate international flights to the United States, which utilises the airport's US border pre-clearance facilities. The concourses are called Concourse A, Concourse B, and Concourse C. Concourse A handles Gates 1-24, with Gates 21-24 being used for US-bound flights and are shared with Concourse B. Gates 1 to 4 meanwhile, is used for regional operations for WestJet Encore. Gates 12, 14, 16, and 18 can be utilised then for international arrivals and departures. Concourse B handles Gates 21 to 40. Gates 21 to 24 are shared with Concourse A, while the remaining gates 31-40 are swing gates between Concourse B and C. US bound flights are treated as a B gate, while domestic and international flights other than flights to the US are marked for C gate. Finally, Concourse C has its own gate assignments, apart from the ones shared with Concourse B. Concourse C uses Gates 50-59, which are mostly used for domestic flights. Some of the gates are utilised for Air Canada Express, while still others are used by Central Mountain Air.
