The United Arab Emirates is more known as the Emirates or the UAE. It is a country that is located in the southeast end of the Arabian Peninsula on the Persian Gulf, which borders Oman to the east and Saudi Arabia to the south, as well as sharing sea borders with Qatar and Iran.
The country was established on December 2, 1971 and it is a federation comprised of seven emirates. Each emirate in the United Arab Emirates is governed by a hereditary emir who jointly forms the Federal Supreme Council, which is the highest legislative and executive body in the country. The President of the United Arab Emirates does its selection by choosing one of the emirs to take on the role. The constituent emirates are namely Abu Dhabi, Ajman, Dubai, Fujairah, Ras al-Khaimah, Sharjah, and Umm al-Quwain. The capital of the United Arab Emirates is Abu Dhabi and it is one of the two centres of commercial and cultural activities, along with Dubai. The official religion in the United Arab Emirates is Islam and Arabic is the official language.
