Helsinki—Vantaa Airport, also known as the Helsinki Airport, is the main international airport serving Helsinki in Finland. It is located in the city of Vantaa, about five kilometres west of the Tikkurila city centre, and 17 kilometres north of the Helsinki city centre. Originally built for the 1952 Summer Olympics in Helsinki, it is now the fourth largest airport in the Nordic region and is the busiest airport in Finland. It carries almost 16 million passengers annually, and is served by numerous airlines.
Where to go
Helsinki Airport is located between the cities of Vantaa and Helsinki, giving it a window to access the many destinations in the area. Helsinki for one, is the capital and the largest city of Finland, and is known as the primary economic, political, educational, cultural, and financial centre of the area. It is an eye-candy city and an architecturally-satisfying metro, which simply satisfies its title as a World Design Capital (2012). Meanwhile, Vantaa is another city that forms part of the Helsinki metropolitan – the metro that is home to the cities of Helsinki, Espoo, and Kauniainen. Vantaa is the fourth most populous city in Finland, and is the home to the state of the art science centre, Heureka. Modern, upbeat, and simply beautiful, Vantaa is one of the major spots that should be visited through the Helsinki Airport.
