Michigan is a U.S. state located in the Great Lakes region. It is the only state that consists of two peninsulas: the Lower Peninsula and the Upper Peninsula. The two are separated by the 8km Straits of Mackinac channel that links Lake Huron to Lake Michigan. The peninsulas are connected to each other via the Mackinac Bridge. Overall, Michigan has a total area of 250,493 km2. The largest city is Detroit, and the state capital is Lansing.

Marvin's Marvelous Mechanical Museum - Located in Farmington Hills, the Marvin's Marvelous Mechanical Museum features a large collection of coin-operated animatronic dummies, mechanical games, and other related items, such as a classic gypsy Fortune teller machine that was commonly used in carnival sideshows and even an electric chair. Visitors are encouraged to bring change, as most of the machines are still fully functional.

Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park - The Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park, often referred to as simply Meijer Gardens, is a botanical garden and outdoor sculpture park in the Grand Rapids Township. Covering 158-acres, it is the second largest tourist attraction in Michigan. There is a five-storey, 1,400 m2 conservatory in Meijer Gardens called the Lena Meijer Conservatory that features rock landscapes and a selection of tropical plants from around the world. The 3-acre Michigan Farm Garden has a 1930s era farm setting and contains heirloom vegetables, orchards, and figurative animal sculpture, with the Frederik Meijer Gardens Ampitheater is an outdoor music and theatre venue. The Meijer Gardens' new attraction, the 8-acre Richard and Helen DeVos Japanese Garden, is scheduled to open on 10 June 2015.

Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History - The Wright Museum is housed in the Cultural Center of the city of Detroit. It contains the world's largest permanent exhibit on African American culture. The museum's collection includes over 30,000 artefacts and archival materials, including the Blanch Coggin Udnerground Railroad Collection, the Harriet Tubman Museum Collection, a Coleman A. Young Collection, and an interactive exhibit called the And Still We Rise: Our Journey through African American History and Culture. Also inside the museum is the Louise Lovett Wriget Research Library and the General Motors Theater.

The Greyhound bus network provides the most extensive public transit system in Michigan, with service to most of the major areas in the state. Several of the larger cities are served by local bus services. As with most US states, driving a car is the easiest and most convenient way to get around. Some cities in Michigan also have reliable and abundant taxis.
