The Nausori International Airport, colloquially known as Luvuluvu, is the second international airport in Fiji. It is located in Nausori, on the south-eastern side of Viti Levu, the main island of Fiji. The airport is about 23 kilometres from Suva, the capital of Fiji, and is operated by Airports Fiji Limited (AFL). A 20-year Master Plan is currently being drafted for the airport which will include a complete refurbishment and upgrade of its facilities, creating an international and domestic hub for Fiji.
What to see & do
The Nausori International Airport is the main gateway of the world to Suva in Fiji. Suva is known as the capital of the country and is the second most populated municipality in Fiji, after Nasinu. It is located on the southeast coast of the island of Viti Levu, in the Rewa province, Central Division. In 1877, it was decided that Suva will assume the position as the capital of the country when the geography of former main European settlement at Levuka on the island of Ovalau proved to be too restrictive. The administration was then moved to the said commune. Suva is also considered as the country's political and administrative capital. It is the largest and most modern city in the South Pacific, and has become an important regional centre for people, even for students in the region. Tourism wise, the town/city of Suva is known for its 78 parks, of which the locals are proud of, along with a few markets and nightlife destinations. The city also takes pride on its architecture, which is diversified due to many influences. Popular destinations include Fiji Museum, the Mariamma Temple, Colo-i-Suva Forest Park, Albert Park, the Parliament of Fiji, and others. The South Indian Fire-Walking Festival and the Hibiscus Festival are pretty popular annual feasts too, while restaurants such as Guava and bars such as O'Reilly's and Bourbon Bluez provide the much needed alternative entertainment. Don't forget to visit the Suva Municipal Market too – considered as the 'beating heart of Suva'.
