Best cheese in the world! If you go to Croatia, you have to go to PAG. It's like no other place on earth.
Dramatically stark and nearly bare of vegetation, Pag Island has the look of a black-and-white photo with a hand-tinted blue sky. Known for its exquisite lace and salty sheep's-milk cheese, this austere island has (strangely enough) become a major party destination for young tourists in summer. Go in shoulder season, though, and you'll have the beaches to yourself. Pag is about an hour north of Zadar, connected to the mainland by Pag Bridge.
