The Art Deco Capital of the world! We loved it! After the city was destroyed in the 1931 earthquake, it was rebuilt in the popular style of the day. Walking around Napier is like visiting a theme park. Much of the city reminded us of Celebration, Florida or some areas of Miami. This is a very friendly city with a helpful information center, lots of restaurants and shops, a variety of hotels & hostels, a scenic walking path, the National Aquarium of New Zealand, and many historic buildings. You can purchase an Art Deco tour, or explore on your own. There is plenty to see without a formal tour. This is the scene, every February, of a substantial, multi-day Art Deco Festival.
A city of Art Deco buildings and great wineries. The seaside is breath taking, but do not swim in it! Very close to a lot of nature walks and adventure. One of the sunniest places in NZ well worth a trip.
Known for its Art Deco architecture, wine, and wool, Napier is a port city in northeastern New Zealand. Due to its remote location, Napier is off the normal tourist path. Filled with friendly people and lots of sunshine, Napier is a relaxing, enchanting place to visit.
Absolutely beautiful city! The art-deco buildings are incredible! So much to see and do here as well.
