Whether you’re a Kiwi or from overseas, New Zealand packs a pretty punch for wedding venues. You can tie the knot on the snow, sea or sand, there’s somewhere in New Zealand that’s just right – find the perfect hotel with the Skyscanner Hotels App.
1. Stonyridge, Waiheke Island
Let’s start at the top. Waiheke Island proudly perches on the Tamaki Strait, and Stonyridge Café is an intimate wedding venue hiding under a leafy canopy in the green hills. The marital ceremony takes place in a little olive grove. The party can then head up to the cafe overlooking the vineyard and celebrations can continue with some of the local wines.
2. Church of the Good Shepherd, Lake Tekapo
This is probably the most photographed church in New Zealand. It was originally built in 1935, and the builders were instructed to not disturb the matagouri bushes surrounding it during construction. The same bushes now add to that romantic, rugged landscape of this old fashioned wedding venue. As this is a religious building, services are at the discretion of the current Minister, and couples must be wedded by a member of the Christian clergy.
3. Wellington Botanic Garden, Wellington
You can’t beat the Botanic Gardens for picture-perfect scenery. The Rose Garden and the Peace Garden make beautiful ceremony locations in the summer with all their blooms, but the Begonia House is stunning-come rain or shine.
4. Knox Church, Dunedin
This church dates back to 1872, however Robert Lawson designed it in the style of 13th Century Gothic churches found in Europe. This is the second Presbyterian Church in the city, and only Ministers can hold the ceremonies. For a truly traditional wedding, you can even have an organist play as you walk down the aisle (they do allow other performances in the Church)!
5. Cathedral Cove, The Coromandel
Everyone fantasizes about a beach wedding, and every year a few couples get to play out their dream on the Coromandel Coast. The cove acts as nature’s chapel, but you’ll need to book soon if you fancy getting married in this secluded spot – it’s a popular venue for all of summer.

6. Chapel on the Lake, Queenstown
The Chapel on the Lake has alpine views to knock your socks off, but the chapel itself is charming and quaint. The reclaimed church beams and stone walls have a fairytale feel about them, and if it’s a beautiful day, the ceremony can also be performed by the chapel pond. It doesn’t matter whether you’re married in Summer or Winter here, as each season brings its own natural adornments – you just have to choose between the snow-capped mountains or wildflowers in bloom. The Stoneridge Lodge is nearby and can cater for up to 150 guests if you’re having a big reception.

7. Mahana Vineyards, Marlborough
Marlborough, Nelson and Kaikoura have tonnes of coastal retreats and the Sounds make a beautiful backdrop too, but the Mahana Vineyards overlook both the mountains and the sea. “Mahana” translates to ‘warm place’ in Maori, which is where you might be after a few bottles of the local fizz.
8. The Farm at Cape Kidnappers
If you want to feel like you’re nestled away with only your close friends and family (and some stunning views) The Lodge in Cape Kidnappers is perfect. You’re sure to find the right location with 6,000 acres of lavish suites and vistas of the Pacific Ocean all along the cliffs.

9. Hauraki Gulf, The Bay of Islands
We say the Bay of Islands, because you can literally get married on the sea. You can take either a boat trip or an overnight cruise to a secluded island, and have the ceremony there before returning for a reception in one of the stunning resorts. You could even have a beach reception, dine on local Kiwi seafood and spend your special day in the sun.
10. Heli-Weddings, Southern Lakes
There are various celebrants, photographers and wedding specialists who are willing to take your wedding to the top – in this case, the top of the Remarkables. It’s extravagant, but with only you, your partner and celebrant for miles, it’s also extremely romantic.
