Discover Cork

Cork is one of the three main international airports serving Ireland, together with Dublin and Shannon Airports. Located just 8km from the city, it is fitted with advanced infrastructure and is one of the busiest terminals in Ireland. Airlines operating here cover a wide range of domestic and international destinations, including the United Kingdom, greater Europe, and major Australasian cities. It is a single-terminal facility featuring automated self-check-in kiosks.

Getting around

Metered taxis will take you quickly and easily from the city to the Airport, although they are the most expensive option. Buses are a more economical option, with Bus Éireann connecting from the city centre and City Link travelling regionally across to other cities like Galway and Limerick.

As Cork has only one terminal, its passenger grounds are all accessible by foot.

What to see and do

With the city of Cork often named as one of the top cities to visit, visitors to Cork Airport can take the opportunity to explore the delightful city in the vicinity. Only half an hour away by road lies the stoic Blarney Castle, a historic site that has stood proudly for 600 years. Built by the King of Munster in 1446, the Castle has resisted a number of adversaries – learn about the funny tale behind its failed acquisition by Queen Elizabeth I! Its beautifully lush gardens also make for a relaxing stroll and appreciation of Irish history.

Cork City is also home to Ireland’s most famous sheltered food market, the English Market. A bazaar that has served Cork citizens well since 1788, the Market is a colourful thoroughfare bursting with an eclectic mix of traditional Cork products and exciting new delicacies. Most of its vendors have been trading their fare here for decades, so you know you’re being offered the best!

Take a quick trip to the unique Butter Museum, one of Cork City’s specialty offerings. It commemorates Ireland’s crowning success in the butter trade, and even has workshops and demonstrations for curious butter-churner wannabes. If you’d like to visit this museum, do take note of its varying opening hours and entry fees.

If you’d like to be taken around instead, sign up with a Cork City Walking Tour, where a friendly local guide will introduce you to the essence of Cork and Irish heritage. From interesting traditions to hidden alleyways in the 18th-Century Hugenot Quarter, your guide will take you through a side of Ireland that would otherwise be hidden just out of sight!

Prefer to unwind someplace indoors and nearer to the Airport? The Cork International Airport Hotel is just the place for you. With its cosy velvet lobby, quaint dining areas, and comfortable suites, you can experience the best of Irish hospitality without straying too far from your next flight.
