Guildwood Airport is part of YTO, an airport metro code that applies to the combined area of airports located in the Greater Toronto Area. Other airports in the area include the Toronto/Buttonville Municipal Airport, the Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport, the Toronto Pearson International Airport and the Region of Waterloo International Airport. Flying to Guildwood can thus be done through any of these airports as well since there are strategically located and well-connected to many parts of the Greater Toronto Area.
Located in Scarborough, Guildwood is also known as Guildwood Village, a historic and residential neighborhood. Lesser known to many, in the lush forestry of greenery and untouched by modernization, Guildwood is definitely a place to escape the hustle and bustle of city life for many. Stroll by the quiet sidewalks of Guildwood and find yourself in a quaint countryside where neighbors are so few they all know each other. Enter Guildwood through the "Guildwood Gates", formerly known as the gates of Toronto's Stanley Barracks (New Fort York), which still currently provide a unique and grand entrance to the Guildwood community at the corner of Kingston Road and Guildwood Parkway. Additionally, Guildwood has many historical architectural fragments reflecting the demolished buildings of Downtown Toronto, including columns, a sundial and the Guild Inn. The Guild Inn was a former arts center and hotel inside Guildwood Park, which is operated by the City of Toronto but has since closed in 2001. Interestingly, the Guild Inn has been used for various movies and TV shows for its artistic state of decay and abandonment. The park surrounding the inn is notable for a sculpture garden and was designated a heritage property by the Heritage Canada Foundation.
Located on Kingston Road is the Guildwood Train Station in the GO Transit network that allows travelers to travel to nearby cities on the Lakeshore East Line and also to other cities with the Via Rail services running from Toronto to Ottawa and Montreal. The station was meant to provide an easy connection to Toronto Transit Commission buses along Kingston Road as well as car parking. Since the commuter train service was initially only a demonstration the land close to the overpass and the bus stop there could not be acquired due to the cost. This has resulted in quite a long walk for pedestrians using local transit.
The Scarborough Area that Guildwood is located in grew from a collection of small rural villages to become a large city with a diverse cultural community, with the diversity contributed by new immigrants to Canada. Considered greener than any other part of Toronto, Scarborough boasts many parks and trees which will definitely be of good help to those tired eyes and body. Explore the various parks and also hike along the Rouge River Valley, with most parts still in its natural wooded state making it a great place for nature lovers. Another popular landmark is the Scarborough Bluffs along the shore of Lake Ontario, where the breathtaking sight will leave you in great amazement for Mother Nature.
