Wonderful hosts, great walks, and the best sleep after them
Lew's local knowledge of the walking tracks was genuinely the highlight of our stay. Over breakfast he sat down with a map and marked out an extended version of the Grand Canyon walk for us — down through the canyon from Neates Glen, out at Evans Lookout, then east along the Cliff Top Track past Barrow Lookout to Bridal Veil Falls and Govetts Leap. It turned a good walk into the best day of our trip, and it's not something we would have worked out ourselves. Cathy was just as helpful before we arrived, answering questions about breakfast times so we could plan an early start.
Breakfast was excellent — the homemade rhubarb compote in particular is worth getting up for. And after a long day on the tracks, the beds are exactly what you want: genuinely comfortable, and the rooms are nice and dark, so we both slept properly. That matters more than you'd think when you've got another big walk the next morning.
The house itself is lovely — heritage character, immaculate rooms, beautiful gardens and views out over the national park. The village is a short walk away and you're within twenty minutes of Katoomba, Leura and Blackheath, which made it an ideal base.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would come back without hesitation. Thanks Cathy and Lew.
