Flying with Emirates

Based in Dubai, Emirates is the largest airline in the Middle East and the world's 4th most popular airline. From Dubai International Airport, it offers flights to more than 80 countries in 6 continents.

Despite its large size, Emirates is one of the few major airlines that does not belong to one of the 3 main alliances. It does, however, have an agreement with Qantas that includes code-shared flights.

Why Fly Emirates?

Emirates is one of the world's most acclaimed airlines, regularly seen at the top of Skytrax's list of Airline of the Year. Emirates won the first 2 awards, and most recently took top spot in 2016.

Emirates has also won the Skytrax award for Best Inflight Entertainment for 4 years running.

Why Fly with Emirates Airlines

Ways To Check In

When flying from Dubai International, Emirates has a number of convenient ways for passengers to check in. Counter check-in is available 24 hours prior to departure to avoid last minute rushes, self-serve kiosks let you beat long queues, and dedicated family check-in desks make things easier for those travelling with children.

Online check-in (through the Emirates website or app) opens 48 hours before take-off. Once you've checked in, you can print off your boarding pass or get an e-boarding pass sent to your phone. When you arrive at the airport, you can join the bag drop line or head straight to security if you're travelling light.

Baggage Allowance & Fees

For the majority of Emirates' flights, travellers are restricted by weight for their checked luggage. The different fares in economy offer 20kg, 30kg or 35kg, going up to 50kg for first class fares.

There are different rules for flights to North and South America, with passengers allowed a maximum of 2 checked pieces, with the size of these bags being the restricting factor. The total dimensions of a bag cannot exceed 159cm.

Economy passengers are allowed 1 piece of cabin baggage (max 55 x 38 x 20cm and 7kg).

Business and first class passengers can choose any seat they like on an Emirates plane at no extra cost. Economy passengers' choices are restricted depending on fare type.

With the cheapest options (Special or Saver), there's a charge to choose a seat. The price depends on the route and the type of seat you pick (Regular or Extra Value). Seat selection becomes free 48 hours before take-off.

Economy passengers on a Flex or Flex Plus fare can select regular seats at any time for no extra cost.

Inflight Services

Emirates is often cited as one of the world's best carriers, and in 2016 it was named World's Best Airline by Skytrax (as well as having the best inflight entertainment). Emirates also won top place in these awards in 2013.

Emirates have various inflight services that will be both helpful and enjoyable for its passengers. The airline gives passengers access to their flight information including the progress of their flight and a view from the aircraft's external cameras. Passengers can also access live business, news, and sport headlines from networks such as BBC News, and news reads on Dubai and Emirates. Passengers will also have access to phones, SMS, and email from their seats. Emirates also offers over 1,800 channels of premium entertainment during the flight. Passengers can watch from a wide selection of movies, television, audio, and games right from their seats.
