Nice hotel near the center of Aachen.

We were a weekend away with the family of Groningen for the Christmas market in Aachen. Hotel Granus is within walking distance of the centre and Aachen Cathedral. So nice and close to the Christmas market. The hotel looks neat and tidy. The rooms are also really female friendly according to my wife. The staff is friendly and courteous. The breakfast was good.

APPROXIMATE CLEANLINESS, UNPLEASANT STAFF

Frankly disappointed by my stay at Hotel Granus. We are closer to a poorly organized Airbnb than to a real hotel: the reception is almost non-existent (open only from 7am to 12pm), and to collect the keys, you have to go through a box in the lobby, with a number to call... still you have to make yourself understood, because the person on the phone speaks very poor English.
The room also leaves to be desired: approximate cleanliness, cleaning clearly not done seriously. We don’t really feel comfortable.
Breakfast, though included, didn’t raise the standard: cold welcome, unkind, even frankly unpleasant staff — it almost feels like disturbing.
Finally, no convenient parking nearby. It takes about 10 minutes to find public parking, which is not ideal with luggage.
In short, an overall disappointing experience, with a value for money that is clearly not worth it.
FRANÇAIS COMMENT BELOW:
Honestly, I was very disappointed with my stay at Hotel Granus. It feels more like a poorly managed Airbnb than a real hotel: the reception is almost non-existent (only open from 7 a.m. to 12 a.m.), and to get the keys, you have to use a lockbox in the entrance hall. You also have to call a number, but good luck getting understood, as the person on the phone speaks very poor English.
The room was also below expectations: questionable cleanliness, with housekeeping clearly not done properly. It didn't feel comfortable at all.
Breakfast, although included, didn't make up for it. The welcome was cold, and the staff seemed quite unfriendly — almost as if we were bothering them.
Finally, there is no convenient parking nearby. You have to walk about 10 minutes to reach a public parking lot, which is far from ideal when you have luggage.
Overall, a very disappointing experience, with a price-quality ratio that is clearly not worth it.

Awkward hotel with weaknesses in hygiene and pricing

The hotel is getting old.
The box spring beds in our room were heavily worn out, and their service life was extended by a topper.
The hotel looks scruffy in part. The windows in need of renewal do not provide adequate sound insulation in quite noisy external conditions.
The joints of the floor tiles in the bathroom are damaged and offer mold and dirt the best breeding ground.
The TV in our room did not work.
The breakfast was "clear" and quite openly and honestly represented the worst breakfast so far in the accommodations visited so far!
Although we booked our room including parking and fees through Booking.com, we would have to shell out an additional €15 for the parking and €5 tourist tax.
All in all not satisfactory.

Great stay

We stayed for three nights, found getting our room key card and access easy.
Our room was clean, tidy and cosy.
Breakfast gave a nice selection
Parking is a bit of a problem, we parked at Blücherplatz just a 5 /10 minute walk away €5 a night, it looks a bit dodgy but in fact safe enough and the ticket machine has a English button but note it doesn't accept card only cash ( or down load a app)
The hotel isn't located in the centre but about 20 minute walk to the old town
I would recommend this hotel but point out the parking & district issues
We would certainly stay again.

Recommended in Aachen

Lovely hotel within walking distance of the center, nice spacious room lovely bed and a cheap parking lot at 5 min where your car can stay for 5 euros 24 hours.
Many nice and cheap restaurants around the corner and breakfast is more than enough.

Very good location
