Great English speaking family run hotel
We stayed in two rooms for one night at Hotel-Cafe Waldschlosschen. The rooms were large with great views and big balconies. The rooms were clean and the beds comfortable. Our host was very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was very good with multiple choices. We also ate dinner which offered local specialties. Would certainly stay here again.

Nice family-type hotel
I recommend this hotel ideally situated to visit Baden-Baden and the Northern Schwarztwald. The owners and the staff are friendly, rooms are spacious enough and some of them give access to a large balcony, diner and breakfast are simple but tasty.

A delightful, English speaking, family run hotel - highly recommended
We rented a comfortable apartment beside the hotel from the Waidner family a couple of years ago, eating our meals in the hotel, and returned for our first stay in the hotel itself this July.
We were greeted warmly by Herr Waidner, who runs the Hotel with his family. It is sometimes said in these reports that the hotelier could not do enough for the guests, but that is the exactly what you get here. Herr Waidner is the third generation of his family at the hotel (his grandparents opened it in 1927) and it shows, as he clearly gets huge satisfaction from caring for his guests' needs.
The hotel is a typical German pension, located about a mile and half up a very quiet valley, above the small spa town of Bad Herrenalb, in the pretty hamlet of Gaistal.
Our room was reasonably priced and very large, immaculately clean, with a balcony and recently fitted en-suite bathroom with shower. Wi-fi is available.
Dining is either on a terrace outside the restaurant, with a quite lovely view of the surrounding wooded hills, or in the large restaurant itself.
The menu is reasonably priced (usually three fixed price offerings, or a la carte) with typical German food - various schnitzel, fresh trout (recommended) omelettes and home made cakes (think good pub grub, rather than gastro).
The nominal daily tourist tax provides free transport on the buses and trams throughout Baden Wurtenburg (card provided by the hotel) and significantly reduced fares on standard class trains (four of us travelled from the town to Constance on Lake Bodensee, via the Black Forest railway, for about £28.00 return).There is a regular bus service to Bad Herrenalb from just below the hotel, and a quaint terminus station in town, from where you can travel by tram through the Black Forest to the nearest city of Karlsruhe, about 20 miles away (good art gallery).
The Gaistal valley, and the surrounding wooded valleys and alpine style meadows, have a number of well marked easy hiking trails. Bad Herrenalb offers a relaxing spa (Therme) (reduced tourist rates) and outdoor swimming pool. There is also a 'winter garden' (Kurhaus) in town, where regular free concerts are held.

The Black Forest
Located in the town of Bad Herrenalb (Black Forest Germany) the Waldsechlosschen Hotel is a great place to stay. The rooms are big with balcony (Wi-Fi included good). The area is very quiet at night. The restaurant is the very authentic German style and the breakfast is excellent. The staff is very helpful in advice on what to do in the area and they give you a pass ticket so you can ride on the train at no cost. Not far from Bad Herrenalb is the town of Marxzell were a unique transportation museum is located (must see). This area is beautiful, full of history and excellent places to eat. If you like cakes the bakeries are incredible. I recommend this Hotel and the area for a pleasant vacation.

this is a beautiful setting, the owners were perfect hosts, our rooms were lovely the breakfast was amazing, we had some amazing walks from this lovely hotel top class service and a great place to stay
