Great local hangout and atmosphere

It's off the path a bit, but google it and go. The place just makes you feel like you live in the neighborhood and you're just one of the locals. We don't speak much German, but that didn't matter. They have some staff that speak English and make you feel right at home. Classic Bavarian dishes as well as seasonal specials, You can't go wrong here!

This appears to be a fisherman's hostel that now caters to passing trade (people using it for overnight stays). Unfortunately, this now seems to translate into a degree of indifference about guests. The more interesting dinner choices are "unavailable" - and may only be used to get people to sit down. The room we were in was ok, but the bathroom almost unusable, as both WC and washbasin were crowded against the shower so that it was impossible to sit straight on the toilet, or bend over the basin. The situation (by the river) is scenic but comes with serious disadvantages - lots of squashed mosquitoes on the walls testify to this - and with no netting on the windows, ventilation is nearly impossible in summer. Check-in and out is extremely fast, because the owner has little or no time - and having been told that breakfast would start at 7.30, we arrived to find most of the other guests waiting outside a locked room - evidently having been promised an even earlier start (7.00?). When someone arrived at about 7.45, they were unable to cope, so we guests helped serve breakfast to try and speed things up. There is undoubtedly goodwill, but this property does need significant redesign at a basic level, some 'refreshing' and a different approach to guests - at the moment it looks as though management considers that overnight stayers are hardly likely to complain, so why bother?

My experience was probably much different from what it would be at a busier time of year. When I arrived it was dark and no one was there - the restaurant downstairs was closed that night and the hotel was unattended. I called the number on the building (I didn't get through on the number I had on my reservation email) and a man quickly came to let me in, but left again soon thereafter. I was then alone in the hotel and felt sad because I had not expected that. The man did let me change rooms, which I really appreciated, and take up some beer before he left so that made me feel a bit better. The next night the restaurant was open, so it was a little more like what I expected; I ate there and think the food was good. (A note - although the hotel is on the river you can hear the traffic on the other side.) The proximity to Passau was good (for me) - a fairly easy drive of a few miles, and I saw that a bus stop was nearby to the hotel. The room I switched to was very large with a large tv that got lots of channels and had a balcony facing the river, and reasonably working wifi, so all was ok there. Cleanliness was very good and the staff was helpful when they were there. Coffee and breakfast were good and sufficient.

Tandem trip to Budapest

Perfectly situated on the Danube bike path, a few kilometers south of Windorf. Friendly staff. For a hotel on hte Danube bike path they should provide safer oarking for the bikes. They put our tandem in a shed which I found out wasn't locked overnight ...
The hotel has a very nice fish restaurant. The fish is fresh (they have a tank) and nicely prepared. Simple but clean rooms and very pleasant athmosphere.

Wonderful little hotel in beautiful location

This is a small, family run hotel located right at the banks of river Donau.
Staff was very friendly and helpful. We arrived earlier than expected and thought it would be nice to do a biciycle tour along the river to Passau (12 km). The owner didn't have bicycles for rent but phoned someone in a neighbour village to organize them, he even drove there to pick them up for us.
Dinner in the restaurant was delicious, they have their own basin for fish so what you get is really fresh.
The rooms are very spacious for a hotel of this category and looked freshly renovated. We even had a balcony overlooking the river.
Only drawback was they had a wedding party so it was a bit late until we got to bed. Nice people though and of course that's something that always can happen to you on a saturday in places like this.
I'll come back there for sure!
