Worst hotel I have ever stayed at on the Sorrento Peninsula
We stayed at this property, breathtaking view, but with many negative aspects.
The hotel is very dated, both in its decor, where you can smell a musty odor, and especially in its electrical system; in the room, the chandelier light kept losing power, and the air conditioning system was ancient, and furthermore, it was turned off in the morning, according to them so as not to make the cleaning staff sick, otherwise they would have been forced to clean themselves.
It was reactivated after 1:00 PM, so in the room, you would die of heat since it was August; when we asked, unaware, why it wasn't working, they replied that it was fine that day and it was an exaggeration to complain.
In the bathroom, there was always a very strong smell of sewage, disgusting, especially in the morning.
Breakfast was very, very poor; to get the single-serving Nutella, you had to ask the staff, something we discovered after 2 days of staying there, not seeing it among the jams and honey we thought it wasn't there, but instead we saw that another couple had asked and they gave it to them; at 10 o'clock sharp they close the door to the dining room and turn off the air conditioning, so if you are finishing breakfast, you will find yourself dripping with sweat.
Having a gluten intolerance and having notified them months in advance, I was allowed 2 slices of cold, untoasted packaged sandwich bread per day and only 1 small package of packaged cookies per day; if you asked for another slice of bread or another small package, they wouldn't give it to you; these were the only options for me.
The pool is very beautiful, for heaven's sake, but if it was windy, they would close the umbrellas attached to the lounge chairs with nails, and therefore there was no shade in the entire pool area; you were forced to leave given the scorching sun.
Demotivated staff, you had to ask for a service multiple times and they would answer you barely enough; the WiFi in the room doesn't connect, and neither does your own connection, so you are cut off from the world; sheets upon arrival had hairs and lint; check-in is at 3:30 PM, so you already lose half the day; if you ask for the possibility of leaving your bags and using the pool, it is denied, both for check-in and check-out, things that ALL the other hotels we have stayed at do.
In conclusion, the worst hotel on the Sorrento Peninsula.

The only positive thing about this hotel is the beautiful view.
Unfortunately, our experience with the owner/manager was extremely unpleasant. We felt that we were treated in a very unfriendly and unwelcoming manner, which had a big impact on our stay.
The hotel also has some very strange and inconvenient rules. You are required to leave your room key at reception every single time you leave your room – even if you are only going to the pool.
The Wi-Fi was terrible and barely worked. The breakfast was also very disappointing, and some of the fruit looked old and almost rotten.
Overall, we did not feel welcome or comfortable here. Based on our experience, I cannot recommend this hotel, and we definitely would not stay here again.

Beautiful location with fantastic view.
Unfortunately, our experience did not meet expectations in other regards. The hotel had several issues that affected our stay, such as AC and maintenance. Significant improvements are needed before we would consider staying here again.

The hotel has an amazing view, that’s about. We booked for 2 nights as part of a 10 day trip around the amalfi and capri. We lasted 18 hours before booking another hotel in sorrento. I honestly put this down to the hotel being the closest thing to a school under the supervision of a strict headmaster “the owner” I’ve ever come across. If this place lightened up on the rules (which there is many) I honestly think this place could be great. I moved the sun lounger 2 inches to be closer to my partner and got told by the staff to move it back as it’s not allowed. There are also no parasols around the pool on ones covering the tables (there is 1 table) and the pool area can only accommodate 18 guests there are at least 20 rooms so the math just doesn’t math. The whole not allowing food in the hotel and then not having anywhere to buy food blew my mind. The hotel advises you go to the shop in meta then gives you a number for a taxi driver who charges 50 euros for a 4 min drive. Then when you get back with the food you can’t bring it in. This will forever be a running joke with us. The hotel mega mare will from now on be the hotel where we say “at least it’s not as bad as that place”. Take this as a warning because we did not. If you want a nice stay in the Sorrento area book sorrento center the money you save being at the hotel mega mare is soon gone in taxis and stress.

Great view that’s all
We gave Hotel Mega Mare 2 out of 5 stars.
The view from this hotel is absolutely stunning, and if you’re only looking for an incredible sea view, then it’s definitely worth considering.
Unfortunately, there were several issues that really affected our stay.
When we first arrived, the hotel manager was quite rude while explaining that we had to hand our room key back to reception every time we left the hotel, even if we were just going to the pool. We also had to hand in the key for the safe, which felt very strange and inconvenient.
If you don’t have a car or a moped, I wouldn’t recommend staying here. There is no convenient public transport nearby, and the nearest bus stop is about a 30-minute walk away along a very busy and dangerous road, especially in the heat.
Another disappointing rule was that you aren’t allowed to bring your own food to the pool area. You have to buy food from the hotel’s menu, which is very limited (mainly paninis). If you’re expecting proper food on-site, you’re probably better off booking a hotel with a full restaurant.
The lack of Wi-Fi in the rooms is unacceptable in 2026. Because of this, my wife had to rely on mobile data throughout our stay and ended up with a huge phone bill from her service provider.
That said, a huge shoutout to Naveen, who was by far the nicest and most welcoming member of staff. He was always friendly, helpful, and made us feel welcome. He truly deserves a raise!
Finally, the breakfast was absolutely diabolical and one of the worst we’ve experienced.
Overall, the spectacular view is the hotel’s biggest selling point, but unfortunately it wasn’t enough to make up for the poor customer service, inconvenient rules, lack of facilities, and disappointing breakfast.
