Interesting little guest house with lovely staff
The Renau guesthouse is located in a lovely leafy suburb of Riga. It's a bit quiet, but this shouldn't put you off, as it's ten minutes drive from the airport, ten minutes on the train from the centre, and fifteen minutes from the seaside resorts, also by train. The station is literally three minutes walk from the property. The room itself was simple but clean, with a small fridge, a very powerful heater if it gets chilly, and plenty of towels and bedding. The bed itself was extremely comfortable, and the pull-out children's bed was of a very generous size. At the guesthouse there is free table tennis, plus a full-size tennis court (which becomes a skating rink in winter) and a Russian banya available for hire. The room itself is definitely not luxury, but what makes the place so lovely is the host, Evgeny. He is incredibly welcoming and helpful. A shuttle service to the airport is included, and Evgeny was up to meet us on the dot, despite our very early flight time. Just take note that this guest house doesn't take cards, so better to have some cash at the ready.
