Well worth being inside the park

Lovely layout, with great privacy and incredibly helpful staff. The advantage of already being in the park meant we could get to Sossuvlei ahead of most people making it much more enjoyable.
The food was excellent - enjoyed our stay

A true lodge experience in the National Park

The character of the Dead Valley Lodge lies somewhere between safari lodge and hotel. We stayed only two nights. I suspect that many guests stay for just one night. It must be difficult to give a lodge experience to such a transient population, in a location which is so heavily touristed. On balance, I think the Lodge is quite successful in providing more than just a room to stay in.
Most importantly, the Lodge organised two excellent tours of Sossusvlei (sunset and sunrise). Being in the hands of an experienced and knowledgeable guide greatly enhanced our enjoyment of Sossusvlei. It also allowed us to make the most of a key selling point of the Lodge – the fact that it is inside the outer gate of the park, allowing for earlier departures to see the sunrise and later returns following the sunset.
In addition to tours of the park, we took a flight in a hot air balloon. We booked this directly with Namib Sky Balloon. I did wonder how we would exit the outer gate of the national park at such an early hour. All was well, as Namib Sky Balloon made sure that a park official was on hand to allow us to exit. Just make sure you have your entry permit for the park handy when exiting.
The Lodge is remarkably peaceful at night. On our walks back to our hut after dinner, we enjoyed the best night skies of any we witnessed in Namibia. The unbroken arch of the Milky Way, stretching across the desert, was breathtaking.
Our hut was pleasant enough. It had some age but everything was functional, clean and in good order. Cars must be left in the Lodge’s communal car park, which is a positive given the early departures of many residents to see the sunrise, go ballooning etc.

Nice lodge

The best of this lodge is his location just in front of the entrance of Sossusvlei national Park. Personnel nice and helpful. Nice rooms but maybe too nearby each other but with a wonderful view (even though if you are in the front is better)

Perfect place to stay for the dunes.

Such a lovely lodge. The rooms are really special and have everything you need (including a hair dryer!).
Food was self service buffet style but great food.
We booked the morning drive to the Dunes - so glad we did. It was incredible to see the sun coming up whilst on the dune. Pierre, our guide, made it so much better than if we had just gone ourselves. The added advantage that we could go into the national park before anyone else was also worth it as the dune got really busy after we left. Being the third people on the dune made it that better.
Would definitely recommend this hotel. Loved every second of our stay.

Great location, needs some improvements

The lodge is delightful and the rooms well presented. The climate control would only work to cool the room and when we were staying nighttime temperatures were just above freezing and there was no means of warming the rooms. Using the bathroom at night was rather bracing as they are access via an external area. The temperatures in the communal areas were also extremely cold and just two gas heaters for the whole space were inadequate. The laundry service was extremely poor and took two days for items to be returned. One shirt was so badly scorched that it had a hole in the front and had to be thrown out, and the collar of another shirt also scorched. The food was very variable although the breakfasts were good. The staff were very friendly and the location of the lodge is good with great views and as it is located between the two gates into the park access is usually one hour before access through the first gate.
