A little gem with high standards

I have stayed in Cusco many times for longer periods of time and always found the quality if 3star hotels a little bit low regarding international standards. This year, though, I was very positively surprised by Pension Sanbleña located high up in the famous San Blas district. It has a terrace with an amazing view of the city.
The bed comes with a proper duvet (not common in Cusco) and has a very good matrace. An electric heater is available in the room. The bathroom is small but offers all you need including touletries. The best about it is its superhot high pressure shower — a rarity in Cusco!
The overall interior design is modern and tasteful. I found the family who owns the place and receptionist Cindy very kind and helpful. All of them speak English. They help organise transport to/from the airport.
The only thing that needs maybe a little bit of improvement is the breakfast: you have a choice of 2 pancakes out of four (2 sweet, 2 savoury options). A juice and one coffee are included as are a free flow of tea, bread, jam & butter. The pancakes get really boring if you stay for more than 2 nights (I stayed for 17). I overheard other guests also asking for eggs or fruit. And from other hotels I am used to buffets and as much coffee as you want.

Good....except for the noise

Everything about our 5 nights here (4 + 1 after Machu Picchu) was very good except for one thing that made me reduce the rating. The apartment we stayed in was spacious (two bedroom). It was located in the San Blas area which was a 5-10 minute walk to Plaza Das Armas. The staff were very good. The breakfast was the same everyday choice of two crepes, juice, coffee. The greatest problem with the place was the constant noise throughout the night. The hotel is located on a narrow street with the only turn around spot and every vehicle would have to reverse (beeps), rev their engines etc. There were no black out curtains on the window and there was a very bright street lamp that flooded the room with light. So, bottom line is if you want a good night sleep - stay elsewhere....

Warm, open, kind hearted!

Beautiful souls only need apply!
Fernando and Janet and their very attentive crew make your stay really easy going, providing the rest and recovery you perhaps need from a long macchu Picchu trip or just adjusting to the altitude after arriving in Cusco.
I only stayed 2 nights but since starting my Spanish study have returned almost every day to enjoy the great food and atmosphere but mostly the feeling of friendship and connection.
Top tip: You have to try the chocolate brownie, 100% Peruvian cacao.. It's to die for!
Say hi and tell em Corin sent ya!

Great location! Great hotel!

Pension Sanblena also known as Hospedaje Kuntur Wasi is a family owned & operated B&B in the heart of the famous and beautiful neighborhood of San Blas. Perfectly located near various quaint restaurants and only 10 minutes walk to the main square.
We stayed here 1 night before going to Machu Picchu and 2 nights after. Our first room was great! It was like an efficiency apartment with a nice size kitchen. Our second room was better! Although no kitchen this time but we had a panoramic view of the old city from our huge window! We loved it! Both rooms were large and spacious, very clean, beds very comfortable, bathrooms spotless and well maintained, strong showers with plenty of hot water. Portable heaters are in the rooms if needed.
Breakfast was good - fresh cut fruits, fresh juice, make your own paninis (ham & cheese), breads, yogurt & cereal, made to order eggs, tea & wonderful fresh brewed coffee from an espresso machine that Fernando, the owner/manager made for us. There’s a patio heater in the breakfast room to take the edge off those cold Cusco mornings.
This is a well run B&B by caring staff especially Fernando who is a wealth of knowledge, always ready with suggestions and/or helpful advice. Both he and his mom are very sweet, welcoming and truly cares for their guests.
We highly recommend this place & would definitely stay here again!
Muchas Gracias Fernando & Senora Maria !

Great pension, lovely staff, perfect location!

We spent our 7 days in Cusco in this Pension. It is clean, cozy and has the perfect location. You can basically walk to every important place in Cusco and there are a lot of nice restaurants and coffee shops within 4 minutes of walking!
On our last day, Sergio was very helpfull and we had a nice conversation. He helped us to store our bags at this place as we had to take the bus in the evening. Even a late check-out could be arranged and we felt like home! Big recommendations to this Pension and big recommendations to Sergio (he should be employee of the month :) )
