A gem to truly recharge

Picture this: relaxing in the jacuzzi with views of the valley and mountains from about 1,300 meters up, then a few hours later climbing to a 1,911 meter peak with the hotel's manager as your guide. That's genuinely how one of our days at Castelnor went.
What makes this resort special is the comfort and high end of the hotel itself combined with the recharging and breathtaking nature around it.
I work in tech in California, so I've stayed at plenty of nice resorts. This one might be at the top of the list. My husband and I booked it as a getaway after a pretty intense year, and it delivered exactly what we needed.
It's the kind of place built for people who want to actually recharge, not just rest. Spa, gym, healthy food, nature doing the rest. I could also see bringing kids here, or hosting a wedding. I wish I'd known about it before mine.
Food was excellent throughout, their specialty rabbit especially. But the staff is what stayed with me most, warm and genuine, not scripted. I'd signed up for a group hike to Vârful Bătrâna, but when no one else joined, the manager, Cornel, took me himself. Along the way he pointed out wild blueberries, local plants, and the area's history, including the fact that the philosopher Constantin Noica lived here in exile and founded the Păltiniș School, a philosophy movement still renowned across Romania. The views from the summit were incredible.
Cornel isn't just talking about a vision for this place, you can see it actually happening, in every detail and in how the staff carries it out.
We were also there during the Tour de Sibiu and the Sibiu Challenge. We walked up to soak in the electrifying atmosphere at the finish line, then headed back and watched the rest of the race and the riders from the comfort of the jacuzzi. Bonus: the hotel dogs walked with us the entire way to the finish line, acting as our own personal guides.
We already shared this with friends and family, hoping to bring them along next time, and wanted to post it here too. We'll be back, hopefully with the kids, for the blueberries, the playground, the hikes, and those friendly, protective dogs.

Great hotel and SPA! Pity that part of personnel cannot keep the standards!

The location is wonderful and the hotel has an attractive architecture, layered on several levels - takes a while to get the right directions to all facilities.
Being summer, the hotel has low occupancy - not so disturbing for us but management of hotel changed the breakfast rules aiming to “reduce food waste”. We were really surprised to see that the new rules ask us to fill up a nice printed leaflet with our breakfast choices, grouped in five menus (e.g. vegetarian, local, etc) - but no possibility to individualise it by picking up what you really shall eat - take it or leave it!!
Outcome: the serving were so large that more than half stayed not consumed! It was a real pity and, obviously, a waste or food and money - a proof of poor management judgement.
Following our verbal feedback, next morning they gave up the system and turned back to “Swedish” open system.
A negative feedback is about people in restaurant that missed completely the idea that customer should be satisfied and wishing to come again.
We were the only ones at dinner and asked the personnel to watch the World Football final at the large TV located in the restaurant, near our table (even muted) = the answer was a prompt and harsh NO!
The waiter even lied saying that the TV is blocked by management on a single channel - but next evening the TV was tuned to that specific channel and the on-duty personnel that day confirmed that TV is free for all commercial stations!!
We realized that personnel, not having too many clients, wanted to leave earlier and the match could last more than they wish to stay!! Even for sure we would add some more drinks to our bill - but there was nothing more important than go home and see the match with their families or friends.
SPA and all other facilities look vey nice and clean. For sure, winter and nearby slope is a real magnet for skiers or SPA lovers (if snow is missing)
