Wellington is the main departure point for ferries to the South Island. From the airport, it’s a 25-minute drive to the ferry terminal, which sits to the north of the CBD. Ferries to Picton take 3-4 hours, and the terminal on that side is less than five minutes from the town centre. You can also head out of Picton and enjoy the scenic drives to Blenheim, Nelson and the Marlborough wine region.
