Where to hire a car at Queenstown Airport
Queenstown Airport has a single terminal for all its flights, however rental car counters are found in 2 different spots. Domestic passengers will spot the majority of the car hire kiosks as they make their way to collect their luggage from the carousels. Some companies, however, are a short walk away from the terminal (less than 5 minutes).
If you can’t find the company you booked with, speak to the team at the information centre, which is next to the Hertz counter.
Parking at Queenstown Airport
Queenstown Airport accepts cash, credit card or eftpos payments for terminal parking. The pay station is conveniently located on the pathway to the departures and arrivals area and has three stations that take all major credit cards and cash. If you have any issues with the pay station, please see a friendly member of the forecourt team or visit the Info Desk inside the terminal.
Park and Ride payments must be made by credit card using the pay station located at the Park and Ride car park area or when you pre-book online.
Getting from Queenstown Airport to your hotel
It’s just a 15-minute drive from Queenstown Airport to the town centre, where most of Queenstown's hotels, hostels and guesthouses are found. The quickest route to Queenstown is to turn right out of the airport and head north on State Highway 6 before turning left onto State Highway 6A. This road takes you all the way to the heart of the city.
The area around Queenstown is popular in the winter with skiing and snowboarding enthusiasts. One of the most visited areas is the Remarkables, which is a half-hour drive from the airport. Follow State Highway 6 south and turn left when you see the signposts for the ski area. This section of the drive is long and winding, and should be approached with caution.
Close to Queenstown is Arrowtown, a former gold mining town. Arrowtown has a historic feel to it that’s missing in the more commercialised Queenstown, and it’s also close to Coronet Peak which is another popular ski area.
The drive from the airport to Arrowtown takes 20 minutes, following State Highway 6 north before turning left onto Arrowtown-Lake Hayes Road.
