Del Bajío International Airport, officially Aeropuerto Internacional de Guanajuato but also called simply Guanajuato International Airport, is a public international airport located in Silao, Guanajuato, Mexico. The airport is operated by Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacifico and handles the national and international air traffic of the State of Guanajuato metropolitan area, including the city of León and the state capital, Guanajuato.

What to see & do

Museum of the Mummies - The Museum of the Mummies (Museo de las Momias) is a must-see unique museum in Guanajuato. The first mummified body from the Santa Paula Pantheon was extracted in 1865, and other bodies were discovered in the following years. A present, there are over a hundred mummies in the museum.

Museo y Casa de Diego Rivera - The birthplace of famous artist Diego Rivera now houses the museum dedicated to the artist himself. The permanent collection exhibited are of his original works and preliminary sketches (including sketches for some of his famous murals) and even a nude of his wife, Mexican painter Frida Kahlo. Upstairs is an intimate theatre where black and white photographs of the couple are on display and films are shown on Wednesdays.

El Pípila - El Pípila, real name Juan José de los Reyes Martínez Amaro (1782–1863), was a local hero of Guanajuato. There is a 28-metre tall monument of this independence hero atop the San Miguel hill.

Metropolitan Park - The Metropolitan Park in León covers over 250 hectares for recreational activities. There is a pier, rose garden, orchards, vegetable gardens, bicycle paths, picnic tables, and camp grounds. Bicycles and boats are available for rent. The park is open daily.

Explora Science Center Museum - Also in León, Explora Science Center Museum (Explora Centro de Ciencias) is an interactive Science Centre. It occupies 9,500 square metres, with four large halls, IMAX theatre classroom, workshops, and temporary exhibits.

How to get around within Guanajuato

The city of Guanajuato is not big enough for a car to be necessary, as one can easily walk to most places. Should you arrive to Guanajuato in a private or rented vehicle, it is advisable to park your car in the hotel. Most hotels offer free shuttle into the city. There are taxis going around Guanajuato, but these normally do not have meters. Ask the driver how much it would cost for your destination. A nice way to get some sight-seeing done is by a trolley-like bus that departs from Plaza de la Paz in the Centro.
