Pierre Regional Airport is a public airport roughly 5 km east of the city of Pierre in Hughes County, South Dakota, United States of America. It is owned by the City of Pierre and resides at an elevation of 1,744 ft / 532 m above mean sea level. The total area occupied by the airport is 1,735 acres, including its two asphalt runways: runway 7/25 measures 6,881 ft by 150 ft (2,097 m x 46 m), while runway 13/31 measures 6,900 ft by 100 ft (2,103 m x 30 m).
Pierre is the capital city of the U.S. state of South Dakota, and the county seat of Hughes County. It is situated roughly in the centre of the state, lying between the larger cities of Sioux Falls and Rapid City. It was announced on 20 March 2015 that Pierre is the city to replace Boardwalk on the game Monopoly Here & Now.
What to see & do
South Dakota State Capitol - The state capitol building of South Dakota is located in Pierre, at 500 East Capitol Avenue. The building contains the office of the Governor of South Dakota, as well as the offices of most of the other state officials. The building, as seen from across the river in Ft. Pierre, is an imposing structure with impressive hand-laid mosaic tiles on the floor and intricate paintings on the dome inside, and the sculptures outside.
Pierre Aquatic Center - Pierre's Aquatic Centre is open to th20/4/15e public for an admission fee from 6AM to 9PM. Open swim hours are from 10AM to 4:30 PM on Saturdays, and from 1PM to 4:30 PM on Sundays. The main feature is an eight-lane, 25-yard pool that can be used for competitive and lap swimming. An 85-foot waterslide, a one-metre diving board, and water toys (water playground) is available for use during open swim. Children younger than 7 years old must be accompanied by a parent or guardian in the water.
Griffin Park Campground - Griffin Park features picnic shelters, playgrounds, tennis courts, campground, a skate park, disc golf holes, a ballfield, horseshoes, an outdoor pool, and even a beach. The Campground has 16 parking spaces that are capable of accommodating all sizes of camping vehicles. No reservations required; the Campgrounds are for a first come, first served basis.
How to get around within Pierre
Public transit in Pierre is provided by River Cities Public Transit. There is a regional bus service, as well as shuttles, medical transportation, youth transportation, and veterans’ transportation. In addition, the city has a Local Shared Taxi program. Pierre is one of the four state capitals not served by an Interstate highway; the nearest is Interstate 90, located about 55 km south of Pierre via the U.S. Highway 83.

Pierre Regional Airport used to be served by two airlines until Delta Airlines left on 31 January 2012. Great Lakes Airlines still operates services between Pierre Airport and Denver International Airport in Denver, Colorado, Huron Regional Airport in Huron, South Dakota, Minneapolis–Saint Paul International Airport in Hennepin County, Minnesota, and Watertown Regional Airport in Watertown, South Dakota.
