Located within Lawspet, in Puducherry, India, Puducherry Airport is a public airport that mostly operates one scheduled commercial flight, in addition to charter flights. The local flying training school also operates out of Puducherry. There have been plans to expand the airport to accommodate some larger aircraft, along with the addition of a new terminal building. Inaugurated in early 2013, the new terminal is planned to handle arrival of the first flights from Bangalore via the SpiceJet airlines. The airport operates with an asphalt-surfaced runway that measures 1,500 metres or 4,500 feet in length.

Formerly Pondicherry, the territory of Puducherry offers Auroville Beach, Paradise Beach, Alliance Francaise de Pondicherry, Ananda Rangapillai Museum, Bharathidasan Museum, Pondicherry Museum, Jamia Mosque, Meeran Mosque, Church of Our Lady of Good Health, Church of Our Lady of Lourdes, Arikamedu, and more. Around four kilometres towards the south of Puducherry, Arikamedu is a fishing colony that was used as a trading port from 200 BC to 200 AD. Among the sites and activities that should not be missed when within the Arikamedu area are the Arikamedu river cruise, and the Roman treasure trail. Pondicherry Museum, or Puducherry Museum, can be found on Saint Louis St. and is open from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on all days except Mondays and holidays. The museum houses a collection of rare bronze and stone sculptures dating as far back as from the Pallava and Chola dynasties, in addition to other artefacts excavated from the Arikamedu site. On the museum's ground floor, its main attraction is the central space that has three transport mechanisms including a coach, palanquin or sedan chair, and pousse-pousse. Other historical treasures to be found within the museum also include various handicraft, coins, church relics, and French furniture. Auroville Beach or Auro Beach is a fairly popular beach destination located around 12 kilometres from the main Puducherry town. With shallow waters and small waves, the beach is ideal for swimming along with other beach activities. As a well-known destination, Auro Beach can be quite crowded on the weekends and tolerable on weekdays. The beach also has many entry and exit points throughout its long stretch, in addition to hotels, guest houses, shacks, and more.
How to get around within Puducherry
While travelling throughout Puducherry, the best ways to get around include renting a pedal cycle, motorcycle, and gearless scooter. Additionally, the territory has buses and shared auto-rickshaws, also referred to as tempo or tuk-tuk. When taking buses, there are daily bus services for tourists that cover every important tourist spot within the area. The auto-rickshaws are fairly common and are easily available. This ride can be a bit expensive but are negotiable. Also, there are AC Auto rickshaws that go from Chennai to Puducherry and back every day. When travelling within Puducherry, there are car rentals available. These can be taken from any part of Puducherry to and fro destinations within Bangalore and Chennai.
