Book Flights to British Virgin Islands

The Caribbean Sea is an inviting paradise where travellers can enjoy a beach holiday with all the comforts. Those going to British Virgin Islands will find the place satisfying due to breathtaking views of the sea and the surrounding countryside. The place is also widely popular for sailing, which allows one to explore the isles and see how different places in the Caribbean are different from each other.

The history of the islands first started out when they were first inhabited by the Arawak. The Carib Indians then settled here, but the coming of the Europeans made it more complicated for the natives who resisted against their imposed regulations. The Dutch first held the authority over the territory in 1648 and was then transferred to British authorities in 1672. Autonomy was granted only in 1967, with the British Virgin Islands still a dependency of United Kingdom.

What to see & do

Going to this part of the Lower Antilles will yield beautiful sights that are relaxing to look at. Some of the spots are unique to the country, though. One of them is the Virgin Gorda Baths, a busy anchorage area, and also one of the country's most famous destinations. The large granite boulders form sea pools perfect for diving and snorkelling. One will also find the Devil's Bay here, where one can tramp through the narrow passages and climb the boulders to arrive at a fine beach.

The British Virgin Island is justifiably well-known for its beaches such as the Cane Garden Bay Beach. This crescent-shaped watering hole is the place to be for tourists who want to enjoy themselves in the company of other people. Water sports can be done in this area, where one can bask in the warm sunshine and meet other people with the island music in the background.

Those looking for a quieter stretch of sand can turn to the Smuggler's Cove lying on the western end of Tortola. This secluded patch of beach is an attractive hideaway for tourists who want to get away from the crowded confines of popular spots in the island. Snorkelling is a recommended activity here, as the underwater environment features such a grand display.

Those looking for biodiverse surroundings can turn to Gorda Peak National Park. This 107-hectare semi-rainforest features various endemic plants and a wide range of wildlife, from frogs and bats to soldier crabs and reptiles. From here, one can climb up to the top of Gorda Peak and enjoy breathtaking views of nearby isles in the area.

Tourists who want to go underwater must visit the Rhone National Maritime Park. This diving site is caused by the crash of the Rhone against the rocky coast, which made it sink. The coral-encrusted steel became home to various groups of snappers, soldierfish, and other species. Those going down here can enjoy the watery scenery and swim by lazily along with the fish.
