Departing from Auckland
Auckland Airport (AKL) is New Zealand's busiest airport, handling over 19 million passengers in 2017. Located 21km from the city centre, it can be reached 24 hours by bus, taxi or shared transfer.
Flights to Bora Bora depart from the International Terminal. Check-in is on the ground floor of the terminal, before proceeding upstairs for the departure gates and duty-free shopping. There's a wide selection of shops and restaurants before and after security, as well as other facilities such as currency exchange, family rooms and free Wi-Fi for up to 45 minutes.
The airport advises passengers to arrive 3 hours before their scheduled departure time.
Arriving in Bora Bora
Bora Bora Airport (BOB) is located off the main island on the small islet of Motu Mute. It's a small facility that only handles a single airline (Air Tahiti), but you can still buy souvenirs and get something to eat and drink before continuing to your accommodation.
Getting from the airport to your resort requires a boat and/or shuttle transfer to Bora Bora island, and maybe a second boat ride if you're staying on a different islet. This may be offered by your resort or arranged independently. There's also a limited public bus service that travels around Bora Bora, or you can hire a car at the airport.
