What to see and do

Doha is the capital of Qatar. Interestingly, despite being the largest city in Qatar, Qatari nationals are a minority in Doha. Although Qatar is more often known as a stopover country, a visit to Doha reveals the many attractions this charming city has to offer.

A must-visit place in the city is Doha Corniche, a 7km long waterfront promenade. This promenade features splendid views of the cityscape. Stroll or jog there and catch a sunset in the evening.

Visit the Museum of Islamic Arts, located at the Corniche. The museum features collections of Islamic ceramics, metalwork and even textiles that dates back to the 7th century. When entering the museum, ensure that you are clothed from shoulder to knees, as a sign of respect to the Qatari culture.

Take a cruise on a traditional sailing boat called the “Dhow”. Depart from the Pearl islands and sail to the Doha Corniche.

Marvel at the architecture of the Grand Mosque. Join the Grand Mosque tour to learn about the mosque’s history and Qatar culture.

The Aspire Zone is a 30 minutes drive away from the airport. There stands Villaggio Mall, an Italian-themed mall featuring Gondolania Theme Park. This theme park also contains an Olympic sized skating rink, roller coaster and a bowling centre. Head to Aspire Park. There, you can relax and have a picnic. Take a walk through this scenic park.

For a unique experience in Doha, watch Camel Racing at Al Shahaniya racetrack. The racetrack, however, is located an hour’s drive away from the city centre.
