Saint Kitts combined with the neighbouring island of Nevis have constituted one country called the Federation of Saint Kitts and Nevis, or the Federation of Saint Christopher and Nevis. The country is located in Leeward Islands, and is a federal two-island country in the West Indies. Its capital is Basseterre.
Saint Kitts is an island that makes up the Leeward Islands in the Lesser Antilles. Its location is situated about 2,100km southeast of Miami, Florida. The land area of St. Kitts is around 168km2, being approximately 29km long and on average about 8km across. The smaller island of Nevis is located 3km southeast of Saint Kitts, across “The Narrows” channel.
Nisbet Beach - This is a resort which travellers must go to in Nevis. It is backed by a plantation and is one of the must-sees in Nevis, with palm-lined powdery white sand, crystal-clear water, and great views across Saint Kitts.
Brimstone Hill Fortress - Located in Northern Saint Kitts, it is the historical highlight of the island where it was made a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1999 for being exceptionally well-preserved example with a background and history of 17th- and 18th-century military architecture.
St. Kitts Scenic Railway - This tourist train follows the tracks of the old narrow-gauge sugar railway that circles the island. Sadly, the train only runs on 18 miles of the tracks along the east and north coasts. The other 12 miles is by bus, but this lets the attraction sell tickets in both directions. Passengers ride in custom double-decker cars. You can sightsee from the open-sided upper deck or kick back with rum punch on the air-con lower deck. The tour takes three hours in total and is hugely popular with cruise-ship passengers, which is why the train schedule is calibrated to when ships are in port. Independent travellers can buy tickets at their hotel or by calling the railway’s office. The train station is close to the airport.
