 Birmingham Airport, Birmingham, UK

Birmingham Airport is an international gateway located 10km from the UK's second largest city. It acts as a hub for five different airlines, including Flybe and Monarch.

Despite the high number of flights that take off or land at Birmingham, the airport has just one terminal which is split between two levels.

International and domestic check-in desks are located in separate areas of this terminal, although you can be walk between them in less than five minutes. Each area is clearly signposted to avoid confusion.

The area by each set of check-in desks has a small array of facilities, such as newsagents, pharmacies and cafes, but a larger selection can be found past the security check. For those who hate queueing, it's possible to book an express lane through security.

The airport also offers other facilities, including a multi-faith prayer room, free children's playground and smoking area.
