Flying with easyJet

EasyJet is a UK-based airline that sells flights with low fares to destinations around Europe and northern Africa. Established in 1995, easyJet's hub is at London Luton Airport.

Because of the low cost and the high number of flights, easyJet is the most popular airline in the UK by passenger numbers, followed by British Airways in second place.

EasyJet makes it cheap and simple to explore Europe. With close to 150 destination airports in 30 different countries, there's no shortage of choice. Of these destinations, 19 are in the UK (some on a seasonal basis) and it's possible to fly as far as Turkey in the east, Egypt in the south, Portugal in the west and Iceland in the north.

easyJet check in

Online check-in for easyJet flights opens 30 days before a flight, closing 2 hours before take-off. This can be done through the company's website or the official app. You can print out your boarding pass using either method, or store it on your phone if you're using the app.

You can still make changes to your booking after you've checked in, such as adding luggage or changing seats, but you'll need to print off a new boarding pass should you do this.

Check-in can also be done at the airport. Check-in desks open 2 hours before and close 40 minutes before a flight.

easyJet baggage allowance and fees

All easyJet passengers are allowed a single item of cabin luggage. This can measure no more than 56cm x 45cm x 25cm (including handles and wheels). There is no weight restriction on hand luggage, so long as you can get it into the overhead compartment unassisted.

Some fares give passengers the option to bring another bag onboard, with smaller dimensions up to 45cm x 36cm x 20cm.

Checked luggage has to be purchased as an additional item. Each passenger is allowed up to 3 bags. These can be bought in increments – starting at 15kg and going up to 32kg. Passengers travelling together are allowed to share bags, so long as the total dimensions of each item is less than 275cm.

easyJet seat selection

Seat selection on easyJet flights is available for a small fee. If you upgrade your fare, you may be eligible for free seat selection.

Each flight has 3 types of seat available:

  • standard seats
  • up front seats (rows 2-5)
  • extra legroom seats

Seat selection can bring other benefits, such as an extra cabin bag or speedy boarding.
