A public airport located on the Caribbean coast of the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico, Cancun International Airport is the second busiest airport in the country after Mexico City International Airport. It functions as a hub for VivaAerobus and a focus city for Volaris and Delta Airlines. There have been a total of 17.5 million passengers served by the airport in the year 2014, and 11.9 million of which are international passengers. Some of the busiest domestic and international routes at Cancun International Airport are Mexico City, New York City, Monterrey, Atlanta, Dallas, Houston, Toronto, Chicago, Panama City, Miami, Guadalajara, London, Montreal, Madrid, and Manchester.
Cancun International Airport at present, functions with three terminals. Additionally, the airport has been expanding due to being Mexico’s busiest point of entry by air. Currently, the airport has had remodelling and expansions done on its Terminals 1 and 2, with Terminal 3 to be completed towards the end of 2015. The airport operates its three terminals with Terminal 1 serving with seven gates namely 1 to 7A, and after remodelling has been re-opened to serve as gates to domestic and charter flights; Terminal 2 serves with 22 gates, from A1 to A11, and B12 to B22. Terminal 2 has a Satellite Building that has 11 gates on the upper level namely A1 to A11, while the Main Building of the terminal also has 11 gates, B12 to B22; the airport’s Terminal 3 operates with gates C23 to C37, or around 15 gates.
For international travellers, upon arrival at the Cancun International Airport, the airport guides its passengers to the immigration reception area of the airport. The travellers that arrive at the airport are then checked-in by the immigrations then to proceed to the luggage claim area; together with the luggage, the travellers should continue to customs where after being checked, enables them to proceed to the exit of the arrival gate.
Domestically, arrivals are handled via the airport’s Terminal 2 where travellers are led to the baggage claim area to claim their respective luggage, and continue on towards the exit of the terminal. For connecting flights, airport representatives are available to provide any assistance and enable travellers to get to their next flight. It is also possible to be transferred to a different terminal when needed. Cancun International Airport offers free shuttle rides that take passengers to the terminals. It is recommended to ask an airport representative for further assistance and for the ‘shuttle stop’

Services and Facilities
Cancun International Airport provides numerous shops among other amenities and facilities within the airport. Some of the Duty Free Shops include Aerotiendas, Pineda Covalin, Air Craft Silver, Cinco Soles, Hand Craft Air Shop, and more. The airport also offers an independent locker station within the main departure terminal. For a fee, it is possible to place small ‘hand-carry sized’ luggage within the lockers. The lockers can be rented for 24 hours. The airport also has a lost and found area, money exchange, a VIP lounge, and restaurants, to name a few.
