Ngurah Rai International Airport is currently Indonesia's third-busiest and third most crowded international airport. The airport has one runway and two terminals: the Domestic Terminal located in the old building, and the International Terminal in the L shaped terminal. It is operated by PT Angkasa Pura I and a significant hub for the following air carriers: Garuda Indonesia, Indonesia AirAsia, and Merpati Nusantara Airlines. The airport has an annual passenger growth of about 12 to 15 percent and is expected to reach 20 million passengers per annum in 2017, which is the current airport's full capacity. A site for a new, larger airport with two runways has been identified in the Bali’s northern part, east part of Buleleng Regency. Ngurah Rai International Airport meets the International Civil Aviation Administration standards, ensuring that the safety and security of both guests and airport personnel. Denpasar International Airport has International and Domestic terminals. The former is located in the L shaped terminal while the latter is situated in the adjacent building, a short distance to the south east of the international terminal. The two terminals are separated by the Festival Plaza. At present, the check-in counters in both terminals are equipped with electronic scales and luggage conveyors provided. Nine of the international gates have Jet bridges and automated aircraft parking systems. The International terminal features Balinese-themed architecture and has separate departure and arrival halls. It has international departure lounge areas which can accommodate up to 3,175 passengers. Its departures area has 62 check-in counters that are equipped with electronic scales and luggage conveyors. Meanwhile, the Domestic Terminal has 28 check-in counters with electronic scales and a luggage conveyor system and has a Luggage claim area equipped with 2 L type baggage carousel units. There are an insufficient number of gates in the domestic terminal to accommodate aircraft, that’s why the airport operates a fleet of buses to transport passengers to and from aircraft. Domestic passengers are often ferried to aircraft parked on the apron in between the domestic terminal and the cargo terminal to the east of the International and domestic terminals using these buses.
