Previously known as Maroochydore Airport, it was only after several additions and refurbishments that the airport was renamed Sunshine Coast Airport in 1997.
The Sunshine Coast Airport is a regional airport serving Sunshine Coast, Queensland, and also as a gateway to destinations such as Noosa, Maroochydore, Mooloolaba, Caloundra.
This regional airport operates 24-hours a day, and has a capacity for one million passengers per annum. With one terminal, this airport plays host to four airlines bringing passengers to and from three destinations. They have two domestic flight routes to southern state capitals Sydney and Melbourne, and one seasonal international route to Auckland, New Zealand.
Services and Facilities
Owing to the size of this regional airport, there are only two Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) available, one in the arrival hall, and the other in the departure lounge.
To help passengers stay connected to the world in the time they are in the airport, Sunshine Coast Airport offers passengers unlimited free Wi-Fi throughout the terminal building. All you need is your smartphone, tablet, or laptop.
For a small airport, Sunshine Coast Airport has surprisingly detailed, meticulous and attentive service. A team of airport assistants is available and dedicated to serving the passengers of the airport. Any assistance, query, or help you might need, this team is just a call away. White service phones are littered around the terminal, and the team is ready on the end of the line to help.
If you are travelling with young children, the airport is furnished with facilities catering to their needs as well. At both ends of the airport, you will find baby care rooms equipped with a baby change station, toilet facilities, a microwave oven, nappy disposal, and seats for feeding.
If calling for personalised help seems too much a hassle for you, or if you just have some questions about your trip you need answering, you can approach the visitor information desk. The friendly staff on deck will be able to answer any query you might have pertaining to your trip to the region.
Note that Sunshine Coast Airport strictly prohibits smoking inside the airport. Smoking is not allowed within 4 metres of terminal exits, and there are no smoking rooms within the airport as well. As a solution for passengers who are smokers, there are smoking points between the car parks and the terminal building.
As one might expect of a small regional airport, you will be faced with limited food and shopping options. The limited food choices will include a bar, a restaurant, and a café. If you are looking to make some last minutes purchases, you will have a newsstand and some apparel shops to choose from.
If you need a place to rest for the night, Marcoola Motel, and Ramada Marcoola, are both within 1km of the airport.
