The three terminals at Manchester Airport are organised by airline, with most international and domestic flights using Terminals 1 and 2. The airport is a hub for Flybe, and other major airlines include Thomas Cook, Thomson Airways and budget carriers EasyJet, Jet2.com and Ryanair.

Manchester Airport is 14km from the city centre, and well connected by rail and road. Trains from Manchester Piccadilly and Oxford Street take 20 minutes and cost £4 each way, while a taxi journey is likely to cost around £30. You can also take local buses or the tram.

Popular destinations from Manchester Airport

Just an hour's flight from Manchester, Ireland's capital Dublin is a popular city break. Whether you're ticking off the sights like Dublin Castle and Christ Church Cathedral or checking out its legendary pubs, Dublin is the perfect starting point for a tour of the Emerald Isle.

If you'd rather head to the continent, Amsterdam is another unmissable city that's less than an hour and a half's flight away. The famously laid-back capital of the Netherlands is one of Europe's most beautiful cities, as well as home to some of its finest museums such as the Rijksmuseum and Van Gogh Museum.

Surprisingly, the most popular destination from Manchester Airport isn't even in Europe. Flights to Dubai take a little over seven hours, but when you sample the city's unique attractions – from dining at the world's highest restaurant to swimming with sharks in the world's biggest mall – you'll understand why it's such a favourite.
