What is Germany like?
Germany is one of the richest and most developed countries in Europe. Its architecture is what many New Zealanders think of when they conjure up images of Europe, and this can be seen in cities all across the nation.
As well as man-made attractions, Germany has some of the continent's most enticing natural elements – from the beautiful Danube River to the Black Forest and its many vineyards, there's plenty to admire. And while it does grow excellent grapes for wine, it's the beer – and the world-famous Oktoberfest – that Germany is best known for.
Which airlines fly to Germany?
Although there are no direct flights from New Zealand to Germany, it's possible to get from both Auckland and Christchurch to a variety of German cities with just 1 stop.
A number of airlines offer to take you the whole way, such as Cathay Pacific, Emirates and Thai Airways. Other airlines operate 1 of the legs and share the workload with another company, including Air New Zealand, Lufthansa and Qantas.

What is the best time to visit Germany?
Germany has something for everyone at all times of the year. Expect snow and a white Christmas in most parts of the country in the winter, while the summer has plenty of sunny days to enjoy the beaches and the parks.
Oktoberfest is Munich's busiest time of year. Despite the name, this usually starts in mid-September. Accommodation is in high demand during this time, so if you're not planning to go to the festival, or at least to soak in the atmosphere, you might want to rearrange your plans to visit Munich during a quieter time of year.
Do I need a visa for Germany?
No. Germany is in the Schengen Zone, meaning New Zealand passport holders can visit for up to 90 days.
How expensive is Germany?
Depending on where you travel, Germany can be about the same as New Zealand or a bit more expensive. A meal out in Munich tends to cost more than a meal in Berlin, which is about the same as one in Auckland. Beer is a lot cheaper in Germany, while coffees and soft drinks are about the same price as in New Zealand.
