Wellington Airport (WLG) is 9km from the city centre in the suburb of Rongotai. It's connected to the city by bus (from NZ$12), taxi (NZ$30-NZ$40) and shuttle and rideshare services. Short-term and long-term parking is available if you're travelling by private car, which is cheaper if you join the airport's Wildcard scheme.
Check-in desks, departure gates and most facilities are on Level 1. While waiting for your flight to Tokyo, you can get something to eat or drink at the many restaurants and cafes, browse duty-free and regular shops, use the free Wi-Fi and use other airport facilities. You should be at the airport 3 hours before an international flight.
Arriving in Tokyo
Tokyo has 2 airports. Most flights from Wellington arrive at Tokyo Haneda (HND), which is closer to the city. Others arrive at Tokyo Narita (NRT), the main international airport. Both offer a wide range of amenities for arriving passengers, including ATMs and currency counters where you can get Japanese yen, cafes and car hire desks.
