There’s more to Russia than the stereotypical tale of poverty and corruption. Find beautiful terrains at odds with the outsiders’ perspective of the nation when you visit the breathtaking nation.
Be immersed in the atmosphere of authority in the Kremlin, come out to the Red Square and to the St Basil’s Cathedral for some iconic pictures. Pick up little trinkets at the Izmaylovo Market, catch a show at the Bolshoi Theatre and be sure to ride the Moscow Metro. Catch iconic art at the State Tretyakov Gallery Main Branch and the Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts and head onto the historically significant Novodevichy Convent.
Pop by the National Museum for a look at all the artefacts, pose by the Centre of Asia Monument to take a picture (you’re at the exact center of Asia!) and visit the Aldan Maadyr National Museum for the wide collection of exhibits. Experience the times of Stalin rule in the Museum of Oppression, catch a rare of a surprisingly Asian temple in Russia – Tsechenling Datsan, and visit the National Theatre for a show, if not for its interesting architecture.
Find the spectacular State Hermitage Museum in the Winter Palace, pop by the Alexander Nevsky Monastery and go down the Moyka River to get to the beautiful Yusupov Palace. There’s no other place that scream splendor more than the Marble Palace, be sure to drop by! Visit the iconic and intricate statue of the Bronze Horseman, don’t miss out on the Strelka and remember to catch a show at the Mariinsky Theatre before leaving the area.
Witness the epicenter of religion at the Gandan Khiid, watch a production at the National Academic Drama Theatre and explore the vast expanse of the Khövsgöl Nuur National Park, named after its lake Khövsgöl Nuur and most notable for its surrounding picturesque mountains. Stay a while in the village of Dulaankhaan, specialized in crafting bow and arrows, and scale the sacred peak of Shilin Bogd Uul for a breathtaking sunrise.
Visit one of the best museums in all of Finland, Siida, trek through the Linnansaari National Park, and go for the smoke sauna in Kupio. Experience the real meaning of ‘vintage’ at the town of Vanha Rauma, take on the Karhunkierros Trek at the Oulanka National Park for the most amazing sceneries and take a ferry over to visit the Suomenlinna, dubbed the ‘Fortress of Finland’. Have an unexpectedly bizarre experience at the Mekaanisen Musiikin Muse, visit the military structure Bormarsund and come by the magnificent castle Olavinlinna.
Don’t miss the rebuilt royal castle, Kungliga Slottet, go on a crystal adventure at Glasriket (dubbed the Kingdom of Crystal), and experience Viking times at the Foteviken Viking Reserve. Feast your eyes at the fairytale town of Visby, brave the snows at Åre, which is popular amongst skiiers, and find the beautiful Gammelstad in a town full of cute homely medieval buildings. If you’re up for a hiking or skiing adventure at a higher level, then Kungsleden is not to be missed. Pop by the quirky Vasamuseet, where a vast warship has been transformed into an abode.
