One of the larger countries in Central Europe, Poland bears a thousand year-long history of royalties to explore and conquer. In most recent history, it also heavily suffered the wrath of World War II, with much of the Holocaust taking place in Poland. But Poland is ready to leave behind its past and look towards the future, with the restoration efforts being put in place. Synagogues are being built and Jewish centres have set up numerous heritage trails for anyone to remember historical events that took place during World War II. In Warsaw, the capital of Poland, you can see much of the attractions in the Centrum area, encompassing seven districts.
Where to go
You can also drop into Katowice International Airport and explore Katowice, a city in southern Poland. Katowice is said to be the centre of science, culture, industry, and business and is deemed as the capital and largest city of Silesian Voivodeship. Deemed as a cultural hub, you can visit the downtown Śródmieście district that contains a number of Art Nouveau buildings. Notable buildings include the Cathedral of Christ the King, the largest Cathedral in Poland, and the pedestrianized St. Mary’s Street, which is a bustling place of restaurants, pubs, shops, as well as a popular venue for outdoor events.
Give credit where credit is due. Kracow is the cultural capital of Poland, with its historical capital dating back to middle ages. Most of the popular tourist destinations can be found in the Old Town such as the Wawel Castle, a symbolic place of great significance that is said to have witnessed a number of royal coronations. You can also visit the Sukiennice, which serves as a trading Hall in the middle of the Main Market in the early 14th century, and also hosts a number of banquets. Fast forward to present day, souvenir shops are swarming the place.
From Warsaw Chopin Airport, you can reach nearby destinations such as Tenerife in Canary Islands, Lisbon in Portugal, or Chania in Greece. With a contemporary culture amid a renaissance backdrop, Lisbon in Portugal would be a great next destination after Poland. You will surely fall in love with Lisbon’s white-bleached limestone buildings, intimate alleyways, and lovely backstreets that seemingly charm strolling tourists along it. To experience a city life, you should not miss Rossio, Lisbon’s main square. It is equivalent to that of Puerta del Sol of Madrid, or Shibuya in Tokyo. You can also visit the monument-packed neighbourhood of Belém, which features Belem Tower, Jerónimos Monastery, and Coach Museum, which holds the world’s largest collection of coaches and royal vehicles.
From Warsaw Chopin Airport, you can reach a number of destinations. However, no long-haul flights were being served for the said airport. The farthest destination it could fly into would be the Canary Islands in Africa, which takes only about five hours and few minutes of travel time.
