Cheap flights from Vanuatu

Vanuatu is an archipelago found in the South West Pacific ocean region, comprising of 83 islands dotted in the vast blue waters. Just some 2-3 hours from ports in Australia and New Zealand, the country offers a unique blend of rugged and pristine tropical environment, a fusion of traditional Melanesian culture, British, and French colonial heritage, and a little bit of warmth (literally and figuratively) from the locals and the surroundings.

In the recent years, the country has developed into a popular destination in the Pacific, fuelling its thriving economy and its stable political environment. It has also become an international business centre, with expansions in the agriculture and education sectors happening faster than expected. Developing the other sectors gave the country a learning space to further improve on its strengths, and of course create a better place for its natives.

Where to go

Port Vila – found on the island of Efate, Port Vila is the national capital of Vanuatu and is the primary economic and control centre of the whole nation. It has also become the principal tourist destination in the country, having establishments that are for the comfort of tourists. Gourmet restaurants, diving sites and world-class game fishing sites, adding to the relaxed tropical lifestyle and culture, the city and the island of Efate is the first stop for all tourists coming and going to and from the country.

Tanna Island – translated in Tannese (colloquial) Tanna means 'earth', an apt description of this island in Vanuatu. Glorious, rich, and soft volcanic lands which produce organic meat and vegetables, and lush, undisturbed rainforests make the place, while heady night-scented flowers and coffee plantations set the tone. More so, it is where travellers can find the largest living organism, the banyan, along with hot springs, waterfalls, reefs, bays, harbours, and secret swimming holes. Above it all the active volcano of Mt Yasur towers and shows its strength – huffing and puffing above its children.

Luganville – wide main streets that sprawl along several kilometres of waterfront welcome visitors to Vanuatu's Northern capital. Luganville has that sleepy tropical feel, which will make you laze around and just enjoy the warm sun. More so, interesting views are found at every corner, with two main parks and dozens of dusty shops – which, surprisingly contain unique finds.

Sydney – a good-looking metro that has caught the international scene for its vibrant culture, the city has more to it than its opera house. Scratch the surface to reveal its charm, like a hidden pearl from a tough shell. Visit the national parks, the discos, and the harbours. Uncompromising and straight-to-the-point, Sydney is the noise.

Brisbane – a previously sleepy city that is almost way behind its cousins, Sydney and Melbourne, the city is now a cosmopolitan metro with vibrant lights and towering skyscrapers. What is more is that it has caught up with its cousins and has developed its post-modern vibe, a 'neo' city filled with world-class art galleries, booming music scene, and fabulous cafe culture. Laid-back, it is almost a retreat, or maybe more of an energizer? We don't know. See for yourself!

Nadi – too warm for every traveller's liking, Nadi's heat is sometimes unbearable – but hang on to that and explore the beauty of the city found in the Pacific country of Fiji. Check on the picturesque locals, and go around the Main Street to the shops, restaurants, and cafes, and of course, explore the waters and the marina that is almost never crowded.

Currently, direct long-haul flights are not available from the country, but if planning on flying to other destinations aside from the countries in the Pacific, travellers may opt to go to the key cities of Australia and New Zealand, where flights to other destinations are available.
